World War 1 Flamethrowers
One of today's weapons that are used in warfare is the flamethrower. This weapon is no longer as effective as it once was. But when it was first used by the German army, these flamethrowers caused devastating damage to opposing armies. Richard Fielder was the inventor of the German weapon, called a Flamenwerfer. Richard Fielder had created two different types of the flamethrower. One large flamethrower, and one small. Small flamethrowers could be carried by one soldier, while a large one took multiple soldiers to carry. Some advantages of the large flamethrower is that it shot flames much further than the smaller one. But the small flamethrower had it's advantages as well. The small was lighter and was much more mobile and easy to use. It also only took one soldier to use it, and freed up other soldiers that would have had to help carry the bigger flamethrower. This weapon greatly helped the German army in battle, and helped them to, at the time, demolish the opposing army, who had no idea how to stop the weapon.
The use of the flamethrower also brought great surprise to the British when it was first used. The British, along with the rest of the world, had never seen or gone against such a weapon. The deaths due to the newly used weapon was devastating.

When the flamethrower first began to be used in World War 1, it had a large impact, mostly due to the surprise of it's use. The Germans, which were the first to use the flamethrower, shocked the British in battle. The use of this weapon hada large impact on the idea of trench warfare, and was an easy way for the Germans to attempt to remove the British out of their trenches and into the open, where they could be attacked.
The use of Flamethrowers had a large impact on the aspect of trench warfare. This weapon was used to clear the enemy out of their trenches and into the open, where they could be shot. Soldiers carrying the flamethrower would make their way to the opposing army's trench where they were positioned. It was easy for these soldiers to fire the flamethrower into the trench, without really having to reload. The flames that were shot out burned anything in their path, killing or at least clearing out enemy soldiers. These cleared soldiers could then be taken on by normal weaponry.
As with all great weapons, the flamethrower did have some costly drawbacks. One of which was that this new technology was far from perfected, and was very faulty. Lots of soldiers were killed by random explosions of the fuel tank. Another great consequence was that if the fuel tank was punctured by a bullet, it would explode on contact. When the enemy realized this, it was much easier for them to get rid of the flamethrower users. All they had to do was aim for the fuel tank. This drawback was also very costly, resulting in loss of weaponry and death of soldiers.

Modern Usage of the Flamethrower
In modern times, flamethrowers are used in multiple ways. One of these ways (shown in the photo gallery) is that these flamethrowers are attached to tanks when being used in war. This is a very useful tactic, and it also eliminates the possibility of soldiers dying due to a fuel tank exploding. Another way in which flamethrowers are used is that some armies will equip normal guns with flamethrower attachments, which helps to eliminate the heavy lifting that goes with carrying a flamethrower. It also helps because a soldier only needs to carry one weapon, but it acts as two. This is also shown in the photo gallery.
